Dr. Stephen Kakungu brings a wealth of diverse experiences to AWUC with more than 25 years of professional experience, and with both the MBA and Doctor of Ministry degrees. He began his career as a clinical officer in the Ministry of Health followed by successful pastoring before being elected as the Bishop or National Superintendent of the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church. Of particular relevance to his role as chief academic officer, he served for six years as registrar for Justo Mwale University then as academic registrar for Chreso University before being promoted to Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Chreso. Additionally, he is known for excellence in teaching having served as a lecturer in Theology and Educational courses at several universities. His responsibilities include the following:

•  Gives oversight to initial and continuing curriculum development
•  Locates and recommends lecturers/instructors with necessary academic credentials
•  Is ultimately responsible for academic accreditation and recognition and continuing curriculum adaption and updates
•  As chief academic officer (CAO) provides leadership to the faculty and various deans and department heads
•  Gives oversight and leadership to the University at the direction and in the absence of the Principal
